The average citizen is often told that he or she can make a difference as to how government is run, but does anybody actually know how to accomplish that? The Citizens' Campaign has launched a Jersey Call to Service in an effort to bring 5,000 new leaders into powerful leadership positions in their communities.

Citizens' Campaign chairman, Harry Pozycki explains, "We teach in half-hour classes that are available for free online and on demand how people can answer the call and get the power for positive change to reverse the waste and corruption that's hurting all of us. We've built a Platform for the People on our website (www.jointhecampaign.com) where people can enter their ideas to cut waste and corruption at their own hometown level."

A task force has been formed on law and policy headed up by Gary Stein, former Governor Tom Kean's chief of policy. Pozycki says Stein and his fellow experts, "Will take the best of the ideas and make them into models so that, not only can you affect the property tax in your own hometown, but you can have a model that can affect the property tax across the state."

"The courses teach people how to make a constructive proposal to their local governing body or to the school board or county government," says Pozycki. "They're given the kind of information they need to get real results and we've had a lot of success with this already."

Pozycki says members of the task force have a track record of producing resolutions that have actually been adopted and they can help citizens do the very same thing.
