This Earth Day, April 22, the Citizens' Campaign is asking New Jersey residents to "Answer the Jersey Call to Service" by pledging one act of public service to improve their hometown's environment.

Every New Jersey municipality relies heavily on citizens to volunteer their time, expertise, and commitment to identify and present environmentally-friendly proposals or to serve on boards and commissions which affect the environment like planning boards and environmental commissions. Residents not ready to serve on an appointed board or commission can bring their best ideas for conservation and waste reduction to the municipal governing body. For example, municipalities can conduct energy audits to reduce energy use or enter into energy consortiums to reduce wasteful spending.

Citizens' Campaign Chair, Harry Pozycki said, "This Jersey Call to Service in honor of Earth Day serves as a reminder that the quality of New Jersey's environment is dependent upon each of us doing our part and working together."

Pozycki continued, "A local government energy audit not only offers the potential for major cost-savings, it is also an important tool to improve our environment and achieving energy independence."

New Jersey residents interested in advancing these environmentally-friendly policy proposals to their local town governments and school boards can take a free online half-hour class to get started at www.jointhecampaign.com The Citizens' Campaign is leading the Jersey Call to Service to inspire 5000 citizens to participate in the leadership of their communities and create a culture of service and frugality.
