Orange Call to Service Press Conference and CeremonyMayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. signed an Executive Order Tuesday April 13th, launching Orange's Call to Service at a press conference and ceremony at City Hall. The Mayor announced an Orange Call to Service Summit scheduled for Wednesday May 19th. The ceremony featured the swearing in of three new Board of Education members. Harry Pozycki, the  Citizens' Campaign Chair, commended Mayor Hawkins and the City of Orange for 'Answering the Call.' Mayor Hawkins has been calling citizens to serve, by publicizing opportunities through newspaper stories, website postings, and the city's new email newsletter.Mayor Eldridge Hawkins said "In filling vacancies on our boards and commissions, I want to choose from among the most dedicated, best informed, and highly experienced Orange residents. I am opening up the appointment process so that every Orange resident and not just the politically connected have the opportunity for public service. The "Call to Service" program will draw on Orange's deep pool of leadership potential. We will be recruiting citizens to participate in the leadership of our city and educating residents on how to serve on our governmental bodies and how to save money for taxpayers."

As President of the New Jersey Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), Mayor Hawkins has also directed local Jaycees Chapters to get involved with the Jersey Call to Service by urging their local towns to participate and by recruiting residents.
